A Lesson in History
Not a day goes by at Brigadoon that I don't meet the most interesting people. This past weekend, I had the pleasure of hosting Doug & Linda from Wixom, Michigan, and their stay resulted in a very new and unique "hobby" for me. (Anyone who knows me knows that I certainly don't need another one, right?). Here's the story:

Linda has been researching her family's ancestry for a few years, with great results. On the day of their departure, Linda & Doug pulled out their laptop (which I told them wasn't supposed to work in vacationland Mackinaw City) to show me their extensive family tree. Linda also gave me a tour of her on-line genealogy services. Needless to say, about four hours later, we were busily pulling up all lineages by the name of Hyde ... and I'm hooked.

The great part of this story is that I have had several conversations with my 77 year old Dad this past week - and as he remembers names and events, he calls me with more and more "colorful" details of our family's history. I have always been interested in my family's genealogy, and during this past week I have come to appreciate the memories my Dad continues to share.

This experience has also prompted me to think about coordinating a family reunion. (Not that I need another activity, too!) Brigadoon will serve as the home base, and I look forward to sharing the information and stories I have learned about my family members. I will keep you posted on the outcome. A family reunion at Brigadoon might be an activity you may want to consider too!

Have a great week!
